After studying mechanical engineering at the technical University of Karlsruhe (TH), Germany he worked for ABB Management consulting. He went back to University of Karlsruhe to graduate in information technology of design and production. During his education he worked in several projects for the railway industry e.g. requirement and functional modelling for freight cars. He received his PhD with his work in the field of integrated methodologies to support the interdisciplinary product design and innovation process. Since 2003, Dr. Thomas Paral is responsible for the development and technology transfer at Era-contact.

Era-contact develops and manufactures high-performance products, combining compactness, signal stability and steadiness under load with outstanding quality. The core competences of Era-contact are signal transmission and power transmission from low current signals up to an amperage of 800 A (e.g. connection assembly of UIC-552 type). At the production plants in Germany, China and Tunisia, Era-contact manufactures products for the global market according to ISO TS 16949:2002, thus ensuring quality and customer proximity at the same time.

After an education as mechanical car engineer, he studied vehicle engineering at the scientific institute of the university in cologne with a specialisation in railway vehicle design and traction technology. The final diploma “Fire Risk Analyses in Railway Vehicles” was done in the department of fire protection in passenger traffic of Deutsche Bahn AG. In 2001 he changed to FOGTEC Fire Protection to build up the business unit Rail Systems. In 2003 he became a share holder of FOGTEC and in 2006 Rail Systems made 30 % of the complete turn over of the company.
Parallel he was working in different research projects like UPTUN (Upgrading of existing tunnels) and the EU-network FIT (Fire in tunnels). He is member of the German normative group for Fire Protection in Rolling Stock and of different working groups of Deutsche Bahn AG, Schweizerische Bundesbahn and the Association of the german railway industry VDB.
With its RAIL Systems Team, FOGTEC is one of the leading providers of technical equipment for fire protections solutions for rail vehicles. Its performance portfolio covers complete service packages ranging from consulting services via the supply of components and complete systems to the installation and maintenance of fire protection and detection systems.
